Hello, my name is Dallas Pierce, and in this lesson I will show you how to set up breakout rooms in your Zoom meetings. Zoom offers an excellent collaboration tool in the form of breakout rooms. Meetings and presentations take place in all different formats. With breakout rooms, you have the ability to have a meeting on a larger scale, but also create breakout rooms and assign your participants to those breakout rooms for small group dialogue. You can then bring the group back as a whole for a large group discussion. You can also create breakout rooms for various topics and allow your participants to choose a specific breakout room based on those topics. In order to use breakout rooms, you must first have it enabled in your Zoom account. Log into your account on the zoom.us website. On the left-hand side, select Settings. Then scroll about two-thirds of the way down until you reach the In Meeting Advanced section. Then you will see breakout room meetings. Make sure that you turn this on, otherwise you will not have the ability to use breakout rooms in your meeting. Next we have a few different options. I like to ensure that all of these options are enabled that way I have the most flexibility with my breakout rooms. Now that we have enabled breakout rooms and made our selections Let's head on over to our Zoom desktop client and log into a meeting. Now that I am in my Zoom desktop client, let's start an instant meeting. Now that we are logged into a meeting, If you look at the bottom taskbar, select More. You will then see Breakout Rooms. Click there. Now we are able to create as many breakout rooms as we feel necessary. We also have the ability to assign participants automatically, manually, or let the participants choose. Let's create four breakout rooms. As you can see, we have four breakout rooms now. We can then click on each of the breakout rooms and rename them. This would be handy if you had different topics for each of the breakout rooms. Perhaps you wanted one room to discuss short-term goals, or a second room to create and discuss long-term goals. All you have to do is select Rename, and then you can type your topic here. You also have the ability to assign your participants by clicking assign. Down here we have some more options that we can look at. Here we can choose to allow our participants to choose which room they would like to be in. We can also allow our participants to return to the main session at any time. Automatically move assigned participants into breakout rooms. Automatically move all selected participants in breakout rooms to the main meeting. We can also choose to have the breakout room close automatically after so many minutes. We can make our selection here. This will come in handy if you do not want to have your participants worry about how long they have. They do not have to keep track of the time here. We also have the option to notify me when the time is up. Next we can have a countdown prior to the breakout room closing. We can choose to select 60, 120, or 10, 15, or 30 seconds. This will allow your participants to wrap up any final thoughts before coming back to the main room. Once we have made all of our selections, we can open all of the rooms. Now that we have opened all the rooms, we can see how many participants are in each of the rooms. We can also join each of the breakout rooms. We can pop in and see how the dialogue is going or answer any questions. Down here we have broadcast. If we select this we can choose to send a message to all of the breakout rooms. Perhaps we want to give them a little bit more time, or we want to add a topic that they should be discussing. We also have the ability to broadcast our voice. Once we are done, we can click Close All Rooms. It will give us a confirmation and ask if we are sure that we want to close all of the rooms. Now we have closed all of the rooms. We can recreate, we can also add a room if we want, and we can go through this session again if we want to reopen the breakout rooms. This is a really great option if we want to have a large group discussion, then break it down to smaller groups, come back as a large group again, and then maybe break it into small group dialogue a second time. As you can see, creating breakout rooms is really easy, and it can lead to great dialogue in your meetings. Stay tuned for the next lesson where I show you how to use the whiteboard feature for collaboration. Thanks for watching!
