Hello, my name is Christina Loffredo, and in these lessons you will learn more about Dropbox folder creation, including some of the great features you can do with your files, such as save documents and media files within your folders; copy media from a camera or phone; use the document scanner to quickly capture documents, and how to take screenshots. In this lesson, I will show you how to create folders in Dropbox from the Dropbox website and from the desktop application. Remember, no matter where you create your folder, that folder will show in all places that you access your account. To access the homepage of my Dropbox account, I must first make sure that I'm signed in. Here are my initials here, indicating I am in my account. From the homepage here, I see all of my files and folders. I can also see who can access my folders and files and when my files were last modified. To create a new folder, I navigate to the top here and select Create. As you can see, I have a variety of options. I can create a folder, a shared folder, an automated folder, a document, presentation, a spreadsheet, and more. Let's look at a few of these. Choosing a folder or a shared folder are two of the most utilized features in Dropbox. If you want a folder just for yourself you would select this option. If you're looking to collaborate with others from the get-go, you would choose that option. An automated folder allows you to create folders that automatically perform certain tasks, such as naming, sorting, and tagging every time a file is added to the folder. That is not something we will be exploring in this course, but it is a great option to know about. To begin simply, let's create a folder that just I can access. I will name it "Holiday Recipes". And again, because I am the only one that will access it, I'm making sure that this option is selected. After clicking Create, Dropbox not only creates the folder but I am in this folder automatically, and you can see that here at the top. There are a number of things I can do when I'm in my folder, such as drag and drop files to the folder, request files be added, set up access from my desktop, and share and manage access to this folder. To the right, here is a pane that shows me information at a glance, such as any tags I would like to add, where the folder is saved, and when it was last modified. To the left here is a pane where I can see the Holiday Recipes folder among the rest of my files. Now, let's say I wanna create another folder and this time I know I wanna share it with other people. I would choose Create, Shared Folder, and when given the option, I'd like to create and share a new folder, rather than share an existing folder. Let's call this one "Halloween Photos". Down below, I select the person I want to send to and I determine whether I want them to edit or view the folder. In this case, we're going to select View. If I hit the back arrow, I can see here that the only shared folder I have is Halloween Photos, and I can see this by the People icon on top of the folder. Now, if I don't want the Halloween photos anymore, I can just go over to More, and hit Delete and that folder will be gone. Dropbox always asks twice if you want to remove a folder. Once the folder is deleted, it disappears from my list. Now, when it comes to the Dropbox desktop application, the process for creating folders is a more basic one than what we just saw now in the browser. Here is my Dropbox desktop application. Remember, because I am working from a PC, my Dropbox opens in this File Explorer window. To add a folder, you right-click anywhere in a blank space and hit New, and then Folder. Let's add back the Halloween Photos folder. And if I want to share it with somebody, I right-click and select who I want to give access to. After looking at folder creation in both the desktop and browser versions, you can see the browser version of Dropbox is more intuitive and provides more options to manage and share the folders you create. Thanks for watching.
