Hello, my name is Stephen Steinbach and in these lessons we're gonna cover the basics of effects and dynamic simulations in Maya 2022. We'll start with nParticles then we'll move into nHair, then some of the fluid effects, such as BOSS, which is Bifrost Ocean System simulation Bifrost fluids and bullet. Now before we run any simulation it's important that we set up a timeline correctly. To do that, let's go to Windows, settings preferences, preferences. Once selected, let's go to the time slider. And right now we currently have a frame rate at 24 flips per second. Let's add some more frames here to give us more time to run simulations. So I changed this to 500, and then what's most important is right down here is play every frame. Now, right now, if it's play every frame and my max playback speed is free what's gonna happen is if I press play, you can see here that I'm getting about 250 flips per second here. If you wanna see this flips per second just go up to display, heads up display, frame rate and you'll want to check that. Now, right now, again, if I press play it's going really fast. So we want to get that more accurate. So let's go back to Windows, settings preferences, preferences. And then inside the time slider we're gonna come down here to max playback speed. And we want it to be 24 flips at one. So the max speed will be 24. So now if I hit save on that, now if I press play it's actually playing at 24 flips per second. You can also get to this on the timeline by right clicking playback speed. Play every frame max real time. Now I've got two simulations here. One is actual size and one is a miniature version of the size here. So in actual size. So this is the actual size in centimeters of a realistic dominoes. But if I press play here, you can see that it's really slow. And that's because most simulations, except for Bifrost has a one to 100 scale. So anything that's a meter tall in real time would be one 100th of that size in of dynamic simulations which would be a millimeter. So you can see here on the smaller one which I've scaled down, you can see here that the simulation is a lot more realistic. Now you can change gravity to increase this but it also warps other variables. So generally speaking, if you feel like the simulation is too slow you wanna reduce the size of the object. And if it's going too fast, you want to increase the size. And that works for all the nParticles, nHair. All of these here, except for Bifrost. In the next lesson, we're gonna cover the basics of nParticles. Thanks for watching.
