When we think of experience, we may associate it with positive qualities and consider it essential for good workplace performance. While experience is certainly invaluable, people who possess it don’t always perform well. The reality is that experience may not actually be a cure-all for our leadership woes. Unfortunately, this way of thinking can cause a false sense of confidence. In a similar way, leaders who hold a lot of power may be more likely to have an overinflated sense of their abilities and qualities. Leaders can avoid these overestimations by cultivating a strong sense of self-awareness.
In this course on Experience, Power, and Self-Awareness for Leaders, you will learn about the dangers of false confidence that can come with experience as a leader. You’ll also learn how power can cause an over-estimation of abilities. Once you understand these concepts, this course explores introspection, objectivity, and questions you can ask to overcome a lack of self-awareness. Goleman’s Domains of Leadership and how they can affect you will also be discussed.
