(upbeat music) Let's discuss how to minimize your anxiety about delivering presentations to audiences. We will also cover tools you can use to prepare your presentation and boost your confidence level, how to build rapport with your audience and how to use empathy to build common ground with them. Being anxious about giving a presentation can be debilitating for some people, but you can channel your anxiety into positive actions that can potentially help your presentation, such as researching your topic, preparing your presentation media and practicing before you deliver it. It may not be easy at first, but you can make some specific forward strides to help you lessen your anxiety. Professor and motivational speaker, Dr. Steve Adubato, once said that to make it look like your presentation is unscripted, you need to be both prepared and to know exactly what your message is. You might be surprised to learn that many public speakers experience anxiety before and during public presentations. As one of the highest paid speakers in the world, Sir Richard Branson once said that one way he gets rid of the panic is to "make sure your speech comes from the heart. After all you can memorize all you'd like, but unless you truly believe in what you're saying, the speech will inevitably feel awkward and forced." Once you feel that you're fully prepared, practice your presentation. You can do this in front of a mirror at home or a practice audience made up of coworkers, friends or family members. It's good practice to prepare and read from note cards, PowerPoint or some other media to rehearse your presentation. You can stop, start again and revise your notes as needed. Complete several dry run sessions until you feel that you've memorized your presentation, then put your notes away and try to deliver the presentation without using your notes and see how well you do. After all, practice makes perfect. You could still use note cards as cues, but the more you have memorized, the easier it will flow. Thorough preparation will help to reduce your anxiety over giving presentations publicly. The more prepared you are, the more reason you must be confident about the material of the presentation you are giving and about the way you are giving it. Remember, anxiety about giving public presentations is nothing to be ashamed about and it can be lessened with the tips we mentioned.
