Slack’s channels are a useful way to organize conversations into dedicated spaces where you can collaborate with just the people you need to. In addition to the two pre-set channels Slack sets up for you—Random and General—you can customize your channels to suit your working needs. One of the ways you can customize a Slack channel is in its privacy settings. Public channels allow any member of a workspace to join the channel. Private channels are for when you’re having conversations that you want to keep between one or a select few people.
Ensuring that good naming conventions are adopted, adding a clear description, and pinning critical information in the chat thread are just a few of the essential best practices to consider the next time you set up a Slack channel. With a better understanding of channels, it is time to consider the entire Slack Workspace, which is a unique spot for you and your team to converse and collaborate. Workspaces are the platform on which your channels are housed. Within your workspace, you can effortlessly search for other members in Slack to find who and what you might be looking for. Utilize direct messaging for minor conversations in Slack that occur privately outside of typical channel conversations. We’ll cover how to upload and share files within your Workspace, so you can communicate and collaborate more effectively with your work teams.
