Hello, my name is Christina Lofredo and in these lessons you will learn about Slack Huddles and how to use them, as well as how to create a workspace in Slack and adjust workspace settings. In this lesson I, will show you what Slack Huddles are, how to use them, and some of their features. A Slack Huddle is a lightweight audio call that lets you and members of your team engage in real time talk. Huddles are not scheduled or planned meetings necessarily that require everyone to be present at the same time, but instead are spontaneous and informal calls designed to facilitate conversation. So what is the difference between a huddle and a call huddles Because there are means to informally collaborate in real time, you're not limited to talking with just the people you want on the call. Anyone can join and leave as they please when a huddle is organized. Some of the ways people use huddles are to conduct open office hours in any of their channels, engage in brainstorm sessions after meetings, or even have social get togethers. Let's take a look at how to use Huddles in Slack. Once you're in Slack, the first thing you'll do is go to the channel or direct message where you want the huddle to take place. On the bottom of your screen in the sidebar you'll see this headphone toggle here. If you want to start a huddle, all you need to do is click on this toggle to begin. If a huddle is started from a direct message or you're invited to the huddle in a channel that is not one you are starting, you can. You'll receive a notification alerting you of this. So let's toggle this on and enter the huddle. You'll see here I'm in the channel called Random, so once this is on, whether or not I initiate it or I'm joining somebody else's huddle, there is an icon next to the channel that shows you a huddle is taking place. While in a huddle, there are a few features you can opt for, such as muting yourself, turning on or off your web camera, sharing your screen, adding a reaction, and more. You have the option to invite more people, open your huddle in a different window and view the huddle thread. It's important to note that you have a dedicated huddle thread in which to share notes with others in the call. These are also available to you and stay in your chat thread once the huddle is done. There is no doubt that huddles are a unique feature that afford the opportunity to communicate with people in a phone call type setting without the formality of an actual phone call.
