Hello, in this Microsoft Visio course, we want to explore how you can create an organizational chart using the Organizational Chart Wizard in Visio, and also basing your data and your organizational chart on a file that you have created. Now, right now in the window, you are actually seeing an Excel spreadsheet that I've created containing the data that will be inside of my organizational chart. And notice, I'm keeping it very simple. I have a row one with column headers in it containing the name of the data that will go in that column. So I see here Name, Title, and then, of course, the Report_TO column showing who reports to who in the organization. Do notice that my Report_TO column, I'm including an underscore in the name. Now, underneath of that, I'm going to see my information. Important that I don't have any blank rows. If I wanted to have more data in the columns to the right, I could do that. But for the purpose of this example, I'm gonna keep it simple. Now, when I'm ready to start using the Organizational Chart Wizard, I'm going to close that Excel spreadsheet because I can't have it open when I'm using the wizard. After it's closed, I've already saved it and know where it's located. I'm going to go ahead and access the Organizational Chart Wizard from inside Visio. I'm gonna go up to the File ribbon tab and actually go into the templates of Microsoft Visio. Now, if I don't see the Organizational Chart Wizard here, I can actually come in and search for org chart, and it should find the organizational chart template for me either here, or if I go back, I can see that it's already pinned to the top of my available templates. I'm going to select it. It will ask me again what the measurements will be. I'm going to select US Units and click on Create. This is what will instigate the Organizational Chart Wizard. And the main question it's asking me is, where is my data? Now, my data is already stored in an Excel spreadsheet, so I'm going to select the top option. You can also create the data as you go. I'm gonna go ahead and click on Next. And then, again, what is the file type for my source data? It's an Excel file. The next step will be for me to browse to where that data is located. And this is the same spreadsheet I showed you just a few moments ago. Now, I'm actually connecting the Organizational Chart Wizard inside of Visio to that spreadsheet. This next step is going to be actually making sure that the columns that are inside of my spreadsheet will connect to the organizational chart. And you can see here, that it's asking me, what is the name of the named column in my Excel data? And it's already been able to make a connection. Now, with Report_TO, I need to select it because it's not quite sure which column to use. Then, I'm gonna click on Next again. Now, if for some reason I have additional columns in my data in Excel, it will show them to me over here on the left. This is my Excel data. On the right, I can decide which fields will actually be displayed from that Excel data in my org chart. And I would like to include the Report_TO column, so I'm going to say Add. Then, I'll click on Next again. And finally, it's going to ask if I would like to include pictures with my organizational chart. We're gonna keep it simple for right now and just include the data. We'll click on Next again. This is asking about the layout of my organizational chart, and you'll see here that I can actually pick which person in my organizational chart would be the top level, or I can just rely on, basically, the template that Visio uses. And I'm going to do that and click on Finish. Now, my organizational chart has been created for me. It's in a new blank Visio drawing. So of course, if I want to able to have it again, I'll need to go in and save it so that I can access it again after the drawing's already been created. And all I have to do here is just go ahead and name the drawing whatever I want to call it and save it. Thanks so much for watching. In the next lesson, we're going to look at how you can edit the layout of your organizational charts in Visio.
