Hello, my name is Steven Steinbach. In these lessons, we're gonna explore architectural modeling using a floor plan. This is used for conceptual architectural design and architectural rendering. Okay, let's go to a new scene and let's turn on the grid first. So show grid. All right. Now by default, everything there are subdivisions and there are units. Let's go to the grid and go to the options. And let's just switch some colors so we can kind of see what's what. The first one is the axis so let's just change the access color to something really loud. Okay, so the axis is the world origin. So this center here is zero, zero, zero. All right, let's look at the subdivision lines and let's change that to a yellow, for instance, and apply that. And now you can see that there are subdivision lines every five subdivisions. So we have a subdivision and then one unit. And let's change our grid line color here to maybe this color. We can see that a little bit better here. All right, so what we have right now is one, two, three, four, five. So here in my top few here, I've actually made the subdivision lines here to none so there's no subdivisions. And I have a grid every one unit. So if I create an object here, it's like a plane, and I look at that, you can actually see that this is actually one unit in size. So if I was to look at this right here, that is actually basically one centimeter. And we know that, let me delete this real quick. We know that because if we go to Windows, settings preferences, preferences, and we go here to settings we can see here that the working units is set to centimeters. So what we wanna do is move it to feet because our floor plan is in feet and not centimeters. So to do that, we're gonna go to foot and press save. And you can see here that the grid is now a lot bigger. If I zoom out here, you can see here that each one of these is now a foot. Now, if I wanted to do a a subdivision every six inches then I could do this to two hit apply and close apply. And now that is now six inches, one foot. Now, if I wanted to do every inch then I'd have to put this to 12 and hit apply, which can be a little bit distracting. So I'm gonna bring this back to two again and hit apply. Now, next thing I'm gonna do is I'm gonna bring in my image plane and then I'm gonna adjust the colors to this accordingly. So to do that, we're gonna go to view image plane import image and you'll find the floor plane jpeg provided and press open. Right now it's coming in very small. It's only from here to here is probably only three inches maybe two inches, and it needs to be a lot larger. So first, let's just take this and let's scale it up and make it a lot bigger here. And the first thing I'm gonna fix is the colors here and what's distracting to me is the yellow. So let me just see if I can try a different color. Let's apply here. And that looks pretty good. I'm gonna do the axis black apply. Okay, so that's better. All right, now we have a unit here is one foot. Okay, so let's go ahead and insert a plane again and let's switch this over to the subdivisions to one and one. Now, currently it's a little hard to see with this color here. And if I wanna change this color to something different we can do that by creating a new layer create from selected. And that's just a little bit easier to see here. So I'm just gonna change the name of this and double clicking on here. I'm just gonna call this model, change the name to model. Hit save. Then we also wanna select the reference itself. And we're gonna do create layer from selected. And this one we're gonna call reference or floor plan. And let's do a few things with this. First, let's just take this and move it down a little bit, and that's good for now. All right, so we have this first object here and we'll go to wire frame on shaded. Okay, so let's grab this here. And what I wanna do is I wanna put the pivot point down here. And to do that, we're just gonna hit the insert key. Then with the move tool We wanna come up here to snap to point. And with that, we can actually move it down and over to this point right here. Let's uncheck that. Then let's snap to grid and hit the insert key. And then let's snap it to that point. So now that this is corner here is one unit over and now we can do our measurement here. So now if I scale in Z, you can see here that I'm coming to two units, et cetera. So what we have here is the living room is 17 by four inches. So if you don't wanna do the math you can do a foot to decimal conversion. And you can see that 17 feet by four inches is actually a decimal is 17.333. And if you wanna do the math, it's basically... So there's 12 inches in a foot, so it's 12 and then we have four inches. So we divide that into four, and then we equals to three. And converting that into a unit, we're gonna take 100 100 units and divide that by three. And that's gonna equal 3333. So that's why we getting the 17.333. So inches to decimal calculator is probably the easiest way. So just keep that handy. And so what we wanna do here is put in 17.33 three hit enter, okay, that's gonna be our measurement here. And what I wanna do next is actually scale this. So I'm gonna select this first. And what I wanna do is I want to add the pivot point down here to this here. So lemme go to prospective mode here and I'm going to hit the insert key and I wanna move this down here. I'm gonna turn off the grid snapping and just come down here and let's put that as close as possible on the outside. It doesn't have to be precise, but somewhere in here and have to frame that. And then insert again, this time what I wanna do is turn on the snap to grid, and I wanna snap that to the center pivot here, right there. Okay from that, we can actually scale this up now so we can just scale and it will scale from center here straight out. And then what we wanna do is scale this all the way to here. We can turn off our grid now, and I'm just bringing the image plane down so it's not on top of here. So just bring that down. And now, once we have this done, let's just double check to make sure it's pretty precise here. Gonna just scale this down a little bit and right there okay, let's change this to reference and then uncheck it. And now you cannot select it. And let's just check with this making sure that this is the correct distance. We can do that with a measuring tape, and let's do that. So first thing I wanna do is I wanna snap the point then hit create measuring tool, distance tool. And then we're gonna click on here. Then we're gonna click on here and we can see here that the distance is 17.33. Okay in the next lesson, we're gonna create the walls of our architectural design. Thanks for watching.
