(upbeat music) What considerations can you make when preparing to communicate with someone within your organization? In these lessons, we'll look at maintaining a professional presence and communicating confidently. Mindful exercises can help you keep your focus on the present. Leaders who help provide mindfulness resources, like a space or lounge where employees can think, games to exercise the mind, or a coffee machine to enjoy, help to facilitate mindfulness by decreasing stress. In the workplace, we generally want to be able to focus on our work, but also feel some relief. This can take the form of stretching, taking a break, grabbing a healthy snack, and consciously making choices that will benefit us. A positive balance between work and a personal life will help boost productivity. More specifically, mindfulness allows for greater concentration in areas that may require greater strategic thinking or decision-making. For example, when you are calm and focused, you can communicate your thoughts in a cohesive manner, which will make the receiver more receptive to you. Productivity can be affected when you aren't focused, and since there are greater distractions in a virtual environment, it's important to sometimes take a mindfulness hour. A mindfulness hour is when you take an hour to escape from distractions. You can focus, not take phone calls, and turn off your text messages to allow complete and total concentration. Afterwards, you can also do some social activities like yoga, going for a walk, or even having a cup of tea, whether with a friend or coworker. This allows you to communicate, express feelings, and to prepare yourself for the remaining part of your workday. The concept of mindfulness involves being focused and aware when it comes to everything you do at your office or involving your work. Being mindful takes a lot of practice, but helps to reduce stress, improve effectiveness, mitigate mistakes, and enhance creativity. Making lists and completing one thing at a time can help to prepare your mind for its next journey. Being grateful and humble can help you become more mindful at work. Breathing exercises are another method for keeping yourself calm and focused on your work. If you don't relax, you could lose sight of the bigger picture and miss deadlines. Essentially, the goal of mindfulness isn't to stop thinking or empty the mind, but rather to allow clarity and focus so that each item is completed. This group of mindful exercises will help you with other aspects of your life, resulting in better work performance. Standing upright and sitting comfortably, recognizing how you breathe, how deeply and for how long, and focusing on being nice to yourself, being self-aware and kind to others. Each of these meditative exercises helps to prepare you for days to come and clear decision-making. The notion of achieving mindfulness and meditation plays just as much a role in the juggle of work-life balance as it does in the office, since it all leads to productivity or a lack of it, depending on how you operate.
