As temperatures rise, so does the risk of heat stress, which can lead to serious health issues like heat cramps, exhaustion, and heat stroke. In this Heat Illness Prevention for California Workplaces course, you’ll learn how to stay safe and productive when working in hot conditions. California law requires both indoor and outdoor workplaces to follow heat illness prevention plans to reduce these risks.
The course begins with how the body cools itself and what happens when that system breaks down. You'll learn to identify symptoms of heat-related illnesses—from dizziness and muscle cramps to dangerous warning signs like confusion and loss of consciousness. The course also covers treatment steps, including first aid and when to seek emergency help.
You’ll explore Cal/OSHA’s requirements for water access, shade, cool-down areas, and heat acclimatization plans. You’ll also see how clothing, food choices, and rest breaks can make a difference. Whether you work outside in the sun or indoors near heat-generating equipment, this course gives you the knowledge to stay safe, follow the law, and help protect coworkers in high-heat environments.
