Hello, my name is Katie Lehman, and in these lessons you'll learn how to use templates in MailChimp, including selecting and editing templates, adding content and editing styles. In this lesson, I will show you how to select and edit templates in MailChimp. On your dashboard, select the campaign section and select email templates. At the top right corner, select create template. There are many options to use for selecting a template base to start with, so you can select a featured template and modify that one or you can select a basic template. You can select a theme, code your own templates, or even select previous templates that were used. The feature templates include selling products, making an announcement, telling a story, following up to an email or educating people on products or specific topic. So it's good to know your goals and objectives before you get started, so you can select something that already has some pre-built buttons and fonts and layouts that will help you to get your message across to your audience. So today we're going to work on the showcase your products, sell products featured template. Now, this template already has a large photo in the center and a button to start shopping, as well as your logo at the top with a strong, large heading. And we'll select this one to begin. Once you are in this area, you will see that there are blocks of information that can be brought into the template, or they can be deleted from the template. So you'll be working with blocks to edit all of the different features of your template. The first thing that I always start with is the logo to brand it to match your brand and start from the top and work your way down. So with the block, anytime you want to edit a block, click on the pencil icon and you will see the editing options to the right. To select your logo, click on the replace link. This opens up the My Files area where you have already uploaded some photos or images as well as logos. And if they haven't been uploaded yet to MailChimp, you can upload them in the top right corner here and then you're able to use those in the templates. So I'll select the logo and then click on insert. And it came in as a very large size as you can see. So the nice thing about MailChimp is you have a slider where you can just slide it to the exact size that you want. Once you have that size, click save and close. So now that your logo's in place it's time to work on the heading. Click on the pencil icon and it brings you into the text editor. In these text editors, it works similar to Microsoft Word where you can highlight over text and type again and it should contain the same formatting that it had, it's already set up in the featured template. So I'm going to change this to be end of year clearance sale for bikes. Okay and as you can see, it kept it bold and the same size font. Now, if I wanted to change the size of the font, you simply highlight over, select font size and you can select which size you would like. If you want to add a link you can do that right here with the link button. You can make it bold, italics, underline. You can add content studio information in there, merge tags, change the paragraph formatting and create bulleted lists, all kinds of different things in this editor. So click save and close. And now we have our title at the top. And instead of doing a large featured photo I want to just do the two and a column side by side, two different columns. So to delete a block, you will see the delete block icon at the top right, which is a trashcan. So click on that, it asks you if you're sure. Click delete, and then that block will go away. Let's say if I wanted to add a button right at the top for somebody to start shopping right away, I can just drag it and drop it where I want it. So drag it and drop it exactly where I want it, so that I can have a start shopping button right under the title. So I highlight over the button text, select start shopping. It can link directly to a web address, so you just would type in the URL and click save and close. Now, instead of having text, I want to go directly to the column section. So I'm going to delete the text block and delete this extra button. So now we're here in the two column section. Click on the edit block and you can see that these items can be replaced. Right now it's highlighted column two which is this photograph of the dress. Column one has the shirt. So I want to replace the column one image with a bicycle image. And then the second one, I go to column two and replace that image as well with a different bicycle image, and it formats them so that they're equal size with the height and the width. Next, I want to change the text that's below this bicycle picture. So I will put information about the sale, and then the shop the sale link will go directly to the sale. Save and close. And then I wanna go back in and go to column number one and also change that information. So I'm going to feature some of the best savings at 70 to 80% off. And I'll say, view our specials. Click save and close. And now you have a template that can be used for the purpose of the upcoming sale. You can also edit your social media links by editing the block and highlighting over the Facebook URL. Copy and paste your Facebook URL page here, your Twitter page and Instagram and click save and close. You also have the website option as well and you are ready to take a look at this. So the next step is to preview and test. Enter preview mode. You can see both the desktop version as well as the mobile version. Scroll up and down just to make sure that everything fits correctly. And the inbox version would give you a preview if you've connected it to your inbox program. Next, I'm going to send a test email to myself or to somebody else. We type in their email address and click send and just double check to make sure everything looks good. When you're ready to proceed, select save and exit. Make sure to name your template and click save. Thanks for watching. Stay tuned for the next lesson where I will show you how to add content to templates.
