Hello, and welcome to Knowledge City's Revit 2022 Beginner Course. My name is Patrick Porter, and I've spent several decades in the Engineering and Construction Industry. I started my career as a drafter, working mainly with the mechanical and process instrumentation disciplines. Along the way, I've taught drafting and design courses at the collegiate level, and I've spent the last 15 years now as a CAD/BIM manager, where applications such as Revit has played a major part in almost every project I've worked on throughout my career. In this Revit 2022 Beginner Course, you will receive a basic understanding of the Revit application. And by the end of this course, you'll have learned Revit's core concepts, how to navigate the Revit interface. You will have created your first Revit project, and you'll have been introduced to some of Revit's datum elements. And then from there, you would've learned how to create and modify model elements. I will also show you how to create model views, and then from there, how to annotate those views with Revit's annotation elements. Before we get started, I wanted to take a minute to talk about how we're going to cover the lessons in this course. Throughout this course, I'll be using Revit LT 2022 version. Autodesk, which is Revit LT's parent company, also creates Revit. Revit LT is a version that starts with the full version of Revit, and it removes a few features to create a more cost effective application. Revit LT looks and feels much like the full version of Revit. The interface menus and other portions of the application are almost identical with the exception of a few options that I'm going to talk about later on throughout this course. The lessons you're going to receive in this course are all focused on learning the basics of the Revit application and thus will apply to all disciplines and will allow you to follow along with either the full version of Revit or Revit LT 2022. On my screen, you should see that I already have Revit running and the interface may look complex right now to you, but by the end of this course, you'll have a basic understanding of how to navigate Revit's environment and how to utilize it for your design adventures. Revit is an excellent application, and it's very easy to use, once you have an understanding of how it's organized and I'm gonna make it easier for you. So let's get started.

In this course, you will learn the basics of Revit. For these lessons, you can utilize either Revit or Revit LT 2022 as you begin your Revit journey. We’ll get started by describing Revit’s purpose as an application, and its one model concept. Next, you will go through the Revit application interface and learn how to navigate within its environment. You’ll create your first Revit project using template files and configuring its project information. You’ll discover what a datum element is and how to create a few types of those elements.

Additionally, you’ll create model elements, such as door windows and walls, and learn how to modify elements using Revit’s modify tools. This course also explains how to create a few types of views, such as sections and elevations. Finally, it covers how to use annotation tools to add text and easily create dimensions and symbols in your project. By the end of this course, you’ll have the skills necessary to create your first Revit project from start to finish, from adding building elements to annotating views.
