Hello, my name is Chrissy Ray. And in these lessons, I will show you how to import and export content, manage comments, and update WordPress. First, we're gonna import an export content. To do that, you need to go to the Tools menu. And to import the content, you're going to click on Import. Now, in order to import the content which you can do from Blogger, you can bring in LiveJournal content, TypePad, Movable Type, RSS. You've got lots of options here. If you're migrating your WordPress site from one place to another or you just wanna get the content out of a WordPress site, you can see that there is a WordPress importer. So I'm going to click on Install Now because it does need to install plugin and you don't need to go to the plugins page to do this. So it just installs the plugin. And then you can click on Run Importer. That's gonna take you to a page where you're gonna choose the file to upload. You already have to have exported the file from the WordPress site that you're importing from which I'll show you how to do shortly. So I'm going to click on Choose File and then I'm going to choose the file that I want to import which is an XML file. Click on open and then click on Upload file and import. You need to specify who the authors are gonna be for each of the posts or pages that you import. So you can see, I have several authors and I'm going to set the author for the existing user all to me. Another option that you have is to download and import file attachments. Those are going to be any media files that are in the media library of the original posts. It's going to try to grab those and import them into the media library of my current site. So I will check that and then click Submit. And it can take a while if you have a lot of post to import. So it might take a little while. This one didn't take too long. If I go to my posts now, I can see that I've got lots of posts added. So previously, I only had a couple of them. And now, I've got 56 of them that I've imported. So it imported all of them. And if I go into one of them, so for example, if I go into On-Page SEO Basics, we can see here that it's going to show me, let me close this window here. It's gonna show me all of the content. Sometimes when it does the imports, if I imported it and the original use a block that I don't have installed, then you might get some things like this. So you can see, in this case, it's using unexpected or invalid content. Most likely, the block that I used on the original site doesn't exist on this site. So I can click on Attempt Block Recovery. And sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It just depends on the block. So you can see, in this case, it did. And the other thing I wanna show you is exporting the content. So let me just click on, oops. Let me just click on Leave here to go back out. So if I go back to my Tools and then I click on Export, you can see that I can export several different types of things. So I can export all of my content and that's gonna create an XML file that has everything in it or I can export specific types of content. So if I wanted to, I could export posts or pages. You can see, I've got some field groups and fields. And some of these different content types are going to depend on what plugins or what you have installed with your theme. So if I have a plugin that creates custom post types, then those would be included in this list as well. So right now, I'm gonna click on All content to export everything. And I'm gonna click on the Download Export File and that's gonna create a file that I can then download. So you can see, I've opened this XML file in the browser and it's just got all of the content in there. So it has XML for all of the different categories and all of the settings for the various posts and pages that are in this website.
