Hello, my name is Katie Lehman, and in these lessons, you will learn how to open a OneDrive file from a Microsoft Office application, save Microsoft Office files to OneDrive, and restore files to previous versions. In this lesson, I will show you how to open a OneDrive file from a Microsoft Office application. My Microsoft 365 OneDrive business account contains Microsoft Office applications that I usually access through their web applications. So when you are inside of this platform and you open a document, you typically go to open it in the online version. There's another option of opening it directly in Word, which also can be accessed through your Windows icon in the bottom left -hand side of your screen down here to go directly to Word, or if you have it open on your taskbar, you can go to Word that way. So let's see how to open it directly from OneDrive. Open Word, and now you're in the main version of Word and editing the document with an autosave already on so that it is saving directly to your OneDrive. Let's close that file, and now I'd like to show you how to open a Word document. So if you don't have Word open already, go ahead and click on Word, go to open, and you can see the two files that I have. I have two folders for access to my OneDrive account, which is my business account, or access to my personal OneDrive account. So if you have both a business and a personal OneDrive account, you'll be able to see both options here, and you can click on them to go directly to their files. Or you can go to browse and see my OneDrive folder for business or my OneDrive folder for personal, and I can select a file to work on from there. That will open up a file in Word, which is the Microsoft Office application that is on my desktop, on my computer, on my laptop, on whichever device you're using. And as you continue to make edits, you'll notice that right now it is only saving to my PC. If I want the autosave feature to be on, now I can connect it with my OneDrive account. Now you can see that it will autosave and create the number one in parentheses so that when it saves back up to OneDrive, it will have that number and be the latest version of that document. So as I continue to type new ideas for the next campaign, as I'm saving, you will see that it is saving here at the top, letting you know when it was last saved and that it has been saved since the autosave is on. So that is how you open a new document that is a OneDrive document and work on it in Microsoft Word. Let's take a look at Excel. Down here I have the icon for Microsoft Excel and I already have a file that is open that is a OneDrive file. Although autosave sometimes comes in as being turned off, let's go ahead and turn it on and connect it to my personal OneDrive account. And now the updates will be going with the number one back up to my OneDrive account, the personal OneDrive account. So let's add another name. Okay, so now we've added some more information and you can notice that it was saved each time I added another piece of information in Microsoft Excel. So this is how it works for Word, Excel, same thing with PowerPoint. Any of the Microsoft Office applications that you'd like to work on, you are able to work on them right from your computer or your laptop, just as you normally would with any other type of document. The key things to make sure that these are being saved directly to OneDrive, even though you take them from OneDrive when you open them, make sure that the autosave is on and they're connected to your OneDrive account so that all of the changes that you make will be reflected when you look at your account online. So when you're logging into either your business or your personal OneDrive account online, you will be able to see that file and work on it again, either in the Word for Web or Microsoft Word standard version on your PC or laptop. So you have multiple options on accessing the files and it's important to make sure that it is autosaving back to your OneDrive and it will continue to stay in your OneDrive. Microsoft Office works well with Microsoft 365 OneDrive, in that you can save a new Microsoft Office file to OneDrive, and you can work within the OneDrive platform, creating and saving Microsoft Office documents with web applications. You may save your OneDrive file to personal and business OneDrive accounts, or save directly to your hard drive. This flexibility gives you access to the files you want at any time, with the ability to keep track of file versions and restore any file to a previous version, if needed.

In this course, you will learn how to save Microsoft Office files to OneDrive by opening or creating an Microsoft Office file—such as in Word or Excel—and saving it to a selected OneDrive account. You can work on Microsoft Office files on web applications for OneDrive, accessed through the “New” or “Upload” areas of the Microsoft 365 OneDrive platform. The ability to work on Microsoft Office files by opening the hard drive applications enables you to sync and save, allowing you to keep copies of the file on the hard drive and on OneDrive. We’ll also show you how to restore files to a previous version by selecting the Version History window in OneDrive, finding the version that you would like to restore, and selecting “Restore” to roll back to that version.
