Being able to reach a lot of people in a short time is a major benefit in emergency situations—and no one is more eager to help get your message out than the media. Learn how to form media relationships and develop strategies to coordinate your organization’s emergency response.
In these lessons, we’ll discuss how a public information officer (PIO) establishes relationships with existing media and maintains those relationships over time via news releases and conferences. We’ll discuss how a PIO speaks for the company during emergency situations, working with the press to release information and updates. We’ll also discuss how to manage other employees’ interactions with the media. By the end of this course, you’ll know how to work with the media to protect both your public image and the public itself.
You'll learn what goes into an emergency response media strategy and how public information officers (PIOs) work with the media on a company's behalf, including establishing and maintaining media relationships and managing employee interactions with the media.
