There are several obvious dangers when working with hazardous materials, but one danger that’s often overlooked is heat stress. But heat stress can be just as dangerous as hazardous materials, so it’s important to know the signs of heat stress and what you can do to prevent it.
In these lessons, you will learn some of the common causes of heat stress during HAZMAT situations, such as wearing heavy PPE or suffering from dehydration. We will discuss was to prevent heat stress from happening, including acclimatization, staying hydrated, and dressing appropriately beneath chemical protective suits. We’ll also cover the various forms of heat stress, such as heat rash, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. By the end of this course, you will be able to recognize the signs of heat stress in yourself and others, and will know what to do if you witness someone suffering from heat stress.
