Hello, my name is Catherine Smith and in these lessons we will be learning to create tables, modify and format existing tables, insert pictures into a document and use the drawing tools. Tables allow you to present your data in an organized manner, presenting information in a column and row configuration, making it easier to read and interpret. We will start by learning to insert a table into a document. There are two methods available when inserting a table. Method number one is to use the. Insert tab on the ribbon. Choose the drop down aligned with the. Word table where you will see a small grid. In the grid you can click and. Drag through the squares to select the number of columns and rows to include in your table. So for example, if I need a table with four columns and three rows, I will select that number of squares in the grid and click. To remove the table. I can choose the table marker in the upper left corner of the table, select Delete Table. Method number two is to use the Insert tab on the ribbon, press the. Down arrow aligned with the word table. But this time we'll go to the. Bottom and open the Insert Table dialog box. Here I can enter the number of columns and the number of rows I would like to include in my table. Again, I'll choose four columns with three rows. With respect to terminology, a table is. Made up of vertical columns. Rows are horizontal and the intersection of the column and the row is a cell. You will notice the columns and rows have an even distribution. Each column will have the same amount of horizontal space and each row the same vertical space. Therefore, each cell is the same size. Tables have their own contextual ribbon, allowing us to make modifications. To enter information into a table, you simply type at the position of the cursor. To advance to the next cell, tap the tab key. To move back to a previous cell position, you hold the Shift key down. Then tap the tab key. The Enter key is used within a. Cell to insert a paragraph and move. The cursor to the next line within the cell. I'll demonstrate I'll be entering some sample. Text into a table to demonstrate. Go ahead and try it and see how you like tables. Stay tuned for the next lesson where I will be showing you how to format text within a table. Thanks for watching.
