Hello, in this lesson, you will learn about the importance of infographics in presenting data, types of infographics, and best practices for using infographics. So what are infographics? They are visual representations of your data and information, and they're designed to make complex or large amounts of information easier to understand and digest. They can be a very powerful tool for presenting information in a clear, concise, visually appealing way and can be used in a variety of contexts from business to even journalism. Some examples of infographics that you might include in a PowerPoint presentation would include charts or graphs, say maybe from Excel, icons, or tables. So let's take a look at some examples of infographics. In PowerPoint, you can create infographics that are cycles, so you could make a cycle. You could break information down into a list. You can present information through a hierarchy infographic, such as maybe an organizational chart. An infographic can look like a timeline where you're presenting information in the time that it occurred. Infographics can be displayed as tables, organizing data, text into a table, neatly organized, more easy to read, and to comprehend. And another example is a here, we have a pie chart where we can organize data into this type of graph or other types of graphs to make it more visually appealing, rather than just reading a bunch of statistics. So let's take a look at, you know, why would you want to use infographics? What are some of the benefits of using them? So one of the main benefits of using infographics is their ability to really simplify any complex information and present it in a way that's just easier to understand. By breaking down data into visual elements like a chart or graph or an icon, you can help to highlight key points and make it easier for the viewer to draw connections between different pieces of information. Infographics can also be used to just create a more engaging memorable experience for your audience, and they'll be more likely to retain information that has been presented in a visually appealing way. So let's think about what are some tips that you might want to consider if you want to create some infographics on your slides. So there are several tips or principles to keep in mind to ensure that, you know, your final product, your infographic is informative and engaging. First, you want to know your audience and you want to keep your infographic tailored to what the audience is going to understand and appreciate and be able to connect with. So this might be as simple as selecting a certain color scheme or font or imagery. Another important tip to ensure that your infographic is easy to read and understand is of course just making sure that you're using clear and concise language. Organize your information in a logical way and avoid clutter, avoid unnecessary complexity. And of course you always want to provide context and explanation for the data being presented. Think maybe a label to clearly define what your infographic is. And then another thing is that you want to consider and avoid chart and graph biases. So what is a chart or a graph bias? This is when sometimes it's done intentionally but oftentimes it's done unintentionally where we could scale the axis of a chart, for example, to downplay the differences between data points or we could only look at a small sample of a population in a chart that is going to then visually mislead our audience. Selection bias is another example of a chart or graph bias. When you're creating a chart you want to make sure that all data points are selected for your chart not just select certain ones that may add to your point or add to your side of the agenda. For example, a line chart may be designed to emphasize a particular trend by selectively choosing data points that support that trend while excluding others that do not. So you want to be careful about some of these types of biases. There are many other types of chart biases that you could look up. Like I said a lot of the times these are done unintentionally. So when you're doing infographics, particularly charts and graphing, you want to consider and be careful to avoid those chart biases. By following these tips, infographics can be an effective tool for presenting information in a way that's both informative and engaging. Stay tuned for my next lesson where I will show you how to insert charts. Thank you for watching.
