Hello, welcome to KnowledgeCity's course on Microsoft Access 2021 Beginner. My name is John Varan, and in these lessons you will learn about properties. In this lesson I will show you what database properties are. Properties in Microsoft Access are additional pieces of information about different database objects. The most important ones are the database properties, table properties, and field properties. Database properties are information about the entire database which is, essentially, our Microsoft Access Database file. To get to the database properties we need to go to the File menu, (mouse clicking) then click on Info and then on the link over on the right that says View and edit database properties. By default, this opens in the Summary tab. Most of the items on this tab are self-explanatory and they're only there for reference and not used by Access so you can fill them in with whatever you like and as you see fit. The one exception is the one at the bottom that says Hyperlink base, this one is used by Access, if you use hyperlinks in your data, forms or reports. If all of your hyperlink share a common base URL, meaning they all start the same way, then you can put that here and Access will automatically append it to all of your hyperlinks. So everywhere else, you would only need to type the last part that's different. For example, I could put in www.mysite.com here, (typing) and everywhere else just put /index or /help and Access would combine the hyperlinks for me. The General tab, on the left, doesn't have anything you can edit, but it has some information that might be useful, such as the location of your Access database file, when it was created, last modified and its size. The Statistics tab is similar, some of the information here is the same as in the General tab, but some is different. For example, this tab also shows when the database was last printed, last accessed, who it was last saved by, the revision number and the total time spent editing it. The Contents tab is a summary of all the database objects in your database. It contains the names of all the tables, queries, forms, reports, macros, and code modules. The final tab, Custom, is the most detailed. This has a list of predefined tag names, which you can use and put in whatever values you want for each. You can even make your own custom tags. For example, we could add a tag called Editor and then put in a name and that would be saved with our database. One problem is that Access actually has a bug with this feature, when I type in a custom one, (mouse clicking) the button stays grayed out, but there is a workaround. What we can do is pick one of the existing ones, doesn't matter what value we'll put in 'cause we're not gonna keep it. We add it, and now when we put in a custom one (typing) Access will let us edit and now we can go to the dummy one we created first and click Delete. And then to save this you will have to click OK.
