Hello, my name is Bob Akbar and in these lessons, I will show you creating and ranking values, which consists of rank function, rank charts, and percentiles. In this lesson, I will show you how to use the rank function. The rank function has three variables that must be met, one is the value that you want to rank, two, the range of the numbers within which it is ranked, and third, if you wanted ascending or descending, in other words, from the bottom, the ranking, or the top. Here's our first example, and you will notice we have ranks, the average and rank, we're going to do both of those in this example, and we are going to rank Bob's age and see how Bob's age compares to the rest of the competitors in our game. So, we're going to select all the ages as the range that we are comparing, and we would like to know as far as the youngest goes, how does Bob rank, and there we are. He is the eighth youngest. Next we are going to compare Bob's rank to the average when it comes to the age, and we'll select a range of the ages, and this time we'll see we'll do this ascending, and there it is. So Bob's age is two and a half times in the rankings of the average age, again, this two and a half is how he is compared to the average. Now if we change this to descending, by changing our order from one to zero, there it is, eight and a half is where he's ranked compared to the average. Now something that may make more sense for us to rank is the distance that our competitors had. So let's see how Bob ranks when it comes to distance. Again, we'll do the rank, we'll pick Bob's number which is 12 for his distance, we'll take into account the whole array of the numbers, and let's see into the ascending order, and Bob threw the fourth on the list. Now compare to the average how did Bob do, and this time we'll pick Bob's 16, let's see how that ranks, and we'll do descending for this time, and there we are.
