In this lesson, you will learn about introducing templates. A favorite feature of many Microsoft Word users is templates. Templates are there to offer you beautiful designs for your documents, brochures, newsletters, resumes, and much more. But they also offer much more than you using existing designs. You can also create your own templates. When you create your own templates, you can use that template file as a starting point for a document. This is especially helpful if you frequently create documents like reports, presentations, and calendars that use elements like company logos. First, let's create a document from online templates. Please note that you'll need an active internet connection. At the Microsoft Word 2021 start screen, you will see a few suggested templates at the top of the screen. However, to see more designs click on more templates. On the screen, you'll see even more suggestions for templates. As you can see, you can choose from document templates such as resumes, cover letters, calendars, reports, and more. Also, there are suggested searches such as business, cards, flyers, letters, education, resumes and cover letters, and holiday. Let's choose this blue sphere's cover letter, and I'm going to click on create which will download the file. And now we have a new document created from that online template. Here's how you would create your own. Let's go back to the start screen by clicking on file. Back at the start screen, I'm going to click on a document which I've already created, which is this XYZ Corp newsletter. This document has a design that I want to use as a template. As you can see here, it has a logo that I want to appear on all of my newsletters, as well as company information and other related information. So I'm going to click on file, and I will click on save a copy. I'm going to click on a location. And here under save as type, you'll see several different file formats. However, we want to use Word template, so I'm going to click on that. Do note that if you had a template that did include macros, you could click on Word macro enabled template. But for now, we are going to use Word template, and I'm going to click on save. I have an existing file there so I'm going to replace that file. So this file is now saved as a template. Now I'll close my template file and I'll reopen Word. Now when I'm back at the start screen, I'm going to click on new, and then I'm going to click on personal. And now we see the template that I created just a few moments ago. I'm going to click on that, and now I have a new file that's created from that template. Thanks for watching. Stay tuned for the next lesson where we will learn about searching for online templates.
