Hello, welcome to Advanced Visio. In this lesson, we want to create a new Visio drawing, a custom template that we previously saved on our computer. Now this is the actual template file so I'm going to close it. And then again, my objective is to actually create a new Visio drawing based on that one. This is like basically taking that to particular drawing and making a stamp of it, but it won't be a template file, it will be a Visio file. The first step I need to do is actually to access the Visio template. To do that, I'm going to go to my file ribbon tab and come down to new. This will, of course, take us to the different templates that are available within the Visio application. We're going to come down here to where there are different categories and actually go to the templates category. Down at the very bottom of the different categories, we're going to see that there's an option that says new from existing. This means, take a template and allow me to create a new Visio file based on it. It allows me to access custom templates that are saved in the "My Shapes" folder on my device. So I'm going to select this, it will tell me just create because it's brand new. Once I do this, it's going to ask me to locate where the file is that I'm going to be basing my new drawing on. Notice it takes me to the "My Shapes" folder. I can find again the template that I want to base this new drawing on and it's the "New Meeting Flow" file. I'm going to select it, notice the file type. Again, it shows me it's a Visio template, in this folder you're going to see Visio templates and also Visio stencils. I'm going to then select create new. Now, I'll see that my new drawing comes up and it's an exact duplicate of the template. But to know that this is a drawing and not a template file, if you look up at the top middle, it has the name drawing, this is the default name for new drawings inside of Visio. So I know it's not the actual template, it's a copy of the template that's not a template file format, but a Visio file format. Now, if I want to keep this file, I need to go and save it, so I'm going to come into file and save as. And again, I'm going to drop it where I want it to go, give it a name. And notice here when I save it, it's file type is a Visio drawing, not a Visio template, so this is indeed a copy of my template that will be stored as a traditional Visio file. Thanks so much for watching, in the next lesson we're going to explore where you can get other popular templates that are being created for Visio, stay tuned.
