Hello, everyone. Welcome to Visio for Beginners. In this course, we're going to explore the interface of Visio and look at how easy it is to navigate in the Visio desktop application. The first thing to know about Visio is that the version that we're seeing on my screen right now is the Professional version. There's also a Standard version that costs a little bit less and has a few less features, but for the most part, the Standard and Professional versions are very similar to each other. Because this is a desktop application, it does require software to be installed on your computer, and Visio does not come with the traditional licensing for Microsoft Office desktop. It usually requires a different licensing or additional purchase before you can utilize Visio on your computer locally. Now, a few things that make Visio like applications you've already used within the Microsoft family. Notice up here in the top left, there's a quick access toolbar, where you can, of course, add your own shortcuts. Then you'll see that Visio also utilizes the same ribbons that many of the other applications in Microsoft do. The default ribbon is always the home ribbon, meaning this is the one that will be forward-facing when you come into the application. Now, a few areas where Visio is a little bit different. First of all, when you come over here to the left-hand side, you'll notice there's a pane open. This is actually called the Shapes pane, and it is made up of stencils that have different shapes within them that you can add to create your diagrams over in the work area in the middle. Now, this work area is where your drawings are actually created, and the work area can actually be divided into different pages, much like a spreadsheet can have individual sheets. And you'll see these pages down in the bottom left-hand corner of the work area. Now, other places where Visio is still very similar to what you're used to are going to be, for example, it has a status bar, like many of the other Microsoft applications. And you'll see in the bottom right-hand corner, there's also a zoom slider, so that you can zoom in and out on your drawings as you work with them. Thanks so much for watching. Stay tuned for the next lesson when we're going to explore the backstage view of Visio desktop.
