Hello, my name is Math Mercalde. And in these lessons, you will learn about slow wireless speeds, wireless authentication, and wireless obstruction. Slow wireless speeds, I'm gonna be talking about the technology behind it as well as what could cause slow wireless speeds. 802.11, this is the wireless standard. It's been around since the mid-'90s. The very first one is 802.11. Now it's called Legacy 802.11. Its speed was two megabytes per second. Frequency is 2.4 gigahertz. And range is 20 meters. Then came along 802.11B. Its speed was 11 megabytes per second. Its frequency was 2.4 gigahertz. And its range is 35 meters. Same year was 802.11A. Its speed was 54 megabytes per second. Its frequencies could either be five gigahertz or 3.7 gigahertz. Its range was also 35 meters. Even though A had superior speeds, B was more the standard. Then came along G. And G was the golden standard for many, many years. Even when the next iteration came out, G was still widely used in companies and in homes. Its speed was also 54 megabytes per second. Frequency was 2.4 gigahertz. And its range was 38 meters. In 2009, the 802.11N. Its speed was 600 megabytes per second. It could go 2.4 to five gigahertz for frequency. And its range was 70 meters. Then came along 802.11AC. This is the one where most people are these days using. 802.11AC uses 450 megabytes per second to or 1,300 megabytes per second. I believe it depends on what frequency you use, whether you use 2.4 or five gigahertz. Its range is only 35 meters. What can cause slow speeds? Well, old hardware. You know, you go into a business, you go into someone's house, and they're using 802.11B or G. Now, with G you may not feel it if you're just browsing the internet 'cause 54 megabytes is still pretty fast for browsing the internet. I mean, a lot of high speeds for houses are still capping at like 50 meg. But you know, you're still gonna feel it, right? Low signal. So if you have a low signal strength, and that could be due to the walls in someone's house or in the building, difference of floors, et cetera, low signal strength could actually cause low speeds. And too much bandwidth is in use. So this is a primary one. Let's say you're in a house full of gamers or people are like downloading tons of movies and streaming and all that. Well, you know, that's killing your bandwidth right there. If too much bandwidth is in use, well, you know, just like with your computer hooked directly up to your router, you're still going to have slow speeds. That's it for this lesson.
