Topics include formaldehyde and your health, monitoring for its presence, labeling, personal protective equipment, cleaning up spills, and first aid.
Although formaldehyde is used in many laboratory operations, it can be a significant health hazard. Mishandling it can cause effects ranging from short-term minor burns or skin irritation to chronic effects from a lifetime of overexposure.
The course addresses chemical hazards, chemical safety, laboratory safety, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standard, and is associated with Chemical Safety Certification and OSHA Certification.
It includes lessons on cleaning up formaldehyde spills and on first aid, along with monitoring for the presence of formaldehyde, labeling, and the use of personal protective equipment.
