Hello, my name is AC Wyatt and in these lessons, you will learn how to get started and how to optimize Adobe Premiere Pro for success in your editing journey. In this first lesson, I will show you some essential configuration tips to help you optimize your workflow and make the most out of Adobe Premiere. Let's get started. After launching Adobe Premiere Pro, you'll want to navigate to Premiere Pro and then you'll go to Settings. Once you're in Settings, you'll want to go to General and this is a good indicator of how Adobe Premiere will launch for you. So at startup, you can go to Potentially Show Home or you can just go directly to opening your most recent. Here you'll also see some other dialog boxes, including when opening a project, what it will do and you can show home or you can show your open dialog box. So this configuration, once you go to Preferences, you'll see Show Open Dialog to Start. You can also go and configure some other settings as you get more comfortable with Adobe Premiere. Some other settings that you'll want to be mindful of are Audio and here you can change some configurations to showcase how your audio is delivered and presented in Adobe Premiere. Another key function you'll want to find is your audio hardware. Here you can select different inputs if you're going to record directly into Adobe Premiere. I have it set to no input because I'm not recording anything into Adobe Premiere Pro from any microphone. One other setting that you'll want to take a look at is default output. So I have this set to my MacBook Pro speakers, but you also have different options for how your audio is coming out so that you could potentially hear yourself or hear what you're editing as you're going from there. One other key configuration that you'll want to do is go to Media Cash here. And so here you'll be able to set the location for your Media Cash. And so here your Media Cash creates what you'll see from your audio waveform and by finding a place that you know you can easily locate, your Media Cash does tend to use up a lot of memory on your computer. So you'll want to periodically delete it out. You can set your settings so that you can automatically delete your cash files after 90 days. You can also change those days there. You can automatically delete it once your cash files reach a certain level. And these are just some default settings that I have there. One other thing you'll want to do is explore some of these other settings as you go. But we're going to hit OK for here and move on to the next key configuration. So for this one, you'll actually go to your project settings in general here. It will show how your video displays, especially if you want to show your timecode, but some people like to go by frames as well. Same goes for your audio and how you want to display it, whether it's the audio sample or a milliseconds. But for this one, we're going to go over to our scratch disks and for reference, scratch disks could not Adobe Premiere refer to the temporary storage locations where the software stores and processes various types of data during your editing session. These files include your render previews, your audio waveforms, your cached media, and other temporary project files. So understanding scratch disks and properly configuring them can significantly impact the performance and efficiency of your workflow. So we're going to hit OK here. After you have these settings sets, you'll want to go back to your Premiere Pro settings and then you'll go to memory. And once you're here, then you can allocate how much RAM you use for all of the Adobe suite. So as a general rule, I usually like to use about six gigabytes that go to other applications. This gives me a good amount of RAM that is going to the Adobe Premiere. So this is a 32 gigabyte set up for RAM. So that means I have 26 RAM for the entire Adobe suite and six for all the other applications. Once you find a number that you are happy with, then you'll hit OK.
