Geological techniques for exploration. Exploration is the term used in the oil industry to describe the search for oil or gas. The methods used are varied, from the geological study of the rock formations that are emerging on the surface to indirect observation using various instruments and techniques of exploration. Indirect methods are those that collect information on the subsoil without the need to extract samples. The indirect geological method of exploration used most in the oil industry is photogeology. Photogeology is based on the interpretation of aerial photographs. It is a way of geologically recognizing areas of large extensions in an extremely short time, though it is necessary to complement this with field verification. A photogeological indirect studio looks at several different factors. Lithology is looking for the characteristics of the rocks that appear in a certain geological formation or a lithostratigraphic unit on the surface of the territory. Struggle refers to studying the earth's crust, its structure and its relationship in the rocks that contain them. This study looks at the geometry of the rock formations and the position in which they appear on the surface. The core take consists of using a pole with a hallow wick in the center which is responsible for cutting sections of subsoil. These cuts vary in dimension from three to nine feet in length with the diameter depending on the type of wick to be chosen. The cut sections are brought to the surface to reveal a representative part of the subsoil showing the content of the rock, the resistance to different efforts and if there is a possibility of the existence of hydrocarbons.
