Welcome to KnowledgeCity's course, Introduction to Thermodynamics. This course is designed to teach you the basic concepts, terminology and uses for thermodynamics. Thermodynamics is the study of heat and pressure, how they are transferred and the properties, some beneficial and some harmful, that they create. It is a branch of physics, which studies all aspects of the physical world. Steam engines became the first practical application of thermodynamic theory. Thermodynamic concepts have been successfully applied across many fields from black holes in space to tiny microscopic particles. Thermodynamic applications are exceptionally broad from how we efficiently convert solar power into energy for use in space and our homes to how some bacteria thrive in harsh freezing environments like Antarctica.
