In the past few years, there has been a sharp increase in the generation of data from all kinds of sources. Organizations are becoming more aware that data can be used to help inform strategic insights and launch new products that would keep them competitive within their industry. As such, there has been an increasing need for data collection projects and initiatives.
In this course on Collecting Data, we will explore the importance of data collection in the context of how it can make an enormous impact on an organization’s ability to achieve its goals. We will provide an overview of the different types of data that can be collected and different data collection methods. Since many organizations also fall into the trap of spending enormous amounts of resources in carelessly collecting data without clear goals, we will also explore how to think critically about how to take the appropriate steps and approaches in collecting data that can achieve impactful business results.

It covers the need to collect data, the data lifecycle, primary, secondary, and third-party data, qualitative and quantitative data, planning and executing data collection, and collecting data through direct interaction and through systems and processes.
The course develops skills in information gathering, data acquisition, data capture, data collection, data selection, and survey data collection.
You will understand the importance of collecting data in the data lifecycle, differentiate among types of data characteristics and their uses, know the steps and considerations in collecting data, and discover different approaches to collecting data.
