In this lesson, we're gonna talk about database languages which are also known as query languages. So these languages are used to search, access, define, and update the data. There are different examples of database languages but we're gonna focus on SQL which is the standard programming language for most databases and the focus of these lessons. So you can break these up into four categories. The first of these that we're gonna talk about is data definition language or DDL. DDL creates the framework of the database by specifying the database schema, which is the structure that represents the organization, the data. So here in our documentation website, three of the commands that are often, common DDL statements are Create, Alter, and Drop FileTables. So, Create is creating a new database or object such as a table, index, or column. Alter changes the structure the database or object. Drop deletes the database or existing objects and Rename, obviously renames an object or table. If we scroll down, you can see these are all defined here. Creating a FileTable with some code examples, and altering, and then dropping. Let's switch over to management studio and take a look at a couple of these commands. So, I'm in my management studio software and here's my customer database that we made with the customer table. So if I right-click on either of those, you'll get all these options. And if I go down to Script Table as, you'll see these commands that CREATE To, if I wanted to create a new table. DROP To, if I wanted to delete it, or you can drop this current table and then create a whole new one. So if you needed to make a change to the structure of your table, you would want to delete it and then create it to the new one. But if we just... If I wanted to do a Drop To example, you go to DROP To and do a New Query Editor Window and it's gonna generate the script here and does all that. And you can see it's got the used the customer table and some SQL code that you may or may not be totally familiar with yet but that will end up dropping the table tblCustomer so that will delete the customer for us. So all we have to do to run this is click on the Execute button and then it'll end up deleting this right outta there for us and the other commands work the same way. So that's pretty much gonna do it for the DDL.
