How the Web Works is an introductory discussion of the internet and the various web technologies that make web development possible. In this course you’ll learn how to define basic concepts and principles for technical communication over the internet, front-end web technology, back-end web technology, web assembly technologies, and a few popular website design tools. This course is not designed to teach you how to program or create websites from scratch but to prepare you to discuss the different technologies involved in web development and how those technologies affect the web development process. The course begins with a foundational description of how internet services mesh with web services. The internet is represented as a foundation on which web servers reside. This also includes how domain names are important to making the web a usable resource for everyone around the world. We then transition to basic front-end building blocks of a website: HTML, cascading style sheets (CSS), and JavaScript. Beyond the basics, we discuss back-end web technology and the emerging use of web assembly language. Finally, the course concludes with a review of a few online and offline website creation software suites.
