Hello, everybody. In this video, we're going to install code blocks on Windows. So if you have a Windows operating system, this is the video for you. And so the URL is the same. You're going to go to the www.codeblocks.org. And so once you go to codeblocks.org, you can download the code blocks IDE that we're going to use for this course. It is available absolutely free. And you're going to click on downloads from the main screen. When you click on downloads, you'll see another screen here with some options on it. You're going to download the binary release, which is the first one. These look like, they don't look like links, but they actually are links, clickable links. And so you want the one on top that says download the binary release. So go ahead and click on that one. And you get presented with another window. And in this window, you have a Windows XP Vista 7, 8, and 10 that go ahead and click on this Windows link on the top, or it's actually the first option on the screen here. Okay, the one that you want to download is the one that says MinMINGW-setup.exe. It is the fourth one down from the list. And the way you download it is to click on the source forage link that is on the right hand side under download from. So go ahead and make sure you click on the right one. It's the fourth one down as the making of this video, sourceforage.net. When you download it, it will put a file in your downloads folder. See, it says the download will start shortly. It'll actually download it and stick it on your desktop, as I've done it here, or in a folder for which you have designated as your download folder. Once the download has completed, and mine, I actually pre-download it, it doesn't really go that fast, but it'll take a few minutes. So once it's downloaded, it has completed. Go ahead and find the executable file. Note that this one says code blocks, and it says MinGW-setup, and it's an executable file. Go ahead and locate the file, and double click on it to run the install. When you run the install, make sure that you're actually installing code blocks, and you haven't downloaded something else, and that the file name is correct, which it is. I'm going to go ahead and say yes, so that this go ahead and run through the install. And then I get a welcome to code blocks setup screen, and I'm going to go ahead and read through what's on the screen first, but go ahead and click on next when you're ready. And you must agree to the license agreement, so click on the I agree after you've read the license agreement, and leave all of the default. Do not click on anything or change anything, install all of the default components, and you'll be in good shape for this course. So go ahead and click on next without clicking on anything. And so now you'll see in the program files code blocks, go ahead and use the default destination folder. If you change it, you might have a problem finding it in the future, so I would say that it's probably safe just to use the default folder. Mine is downloading into program files x86, which is okay. So go ahead and click on next. There's only one version of this. And because I have installed this already, it says the target directory already exists. Press okay to continue. Otherwise, you might get a prompt that will say, would you like to create the target directory? So I'm going to go ahead and say yes. Okay, my extractions have finished. All my files are copied over, and now I'm presented with a screen that asks me, do you want to rent code blocks now? I'm going to go ahead and say yes, and the installation is going to complete, as it looks like it has completed in the background. And I'm going to go ahead and simultaneously finish the installation, so I'm going to click on next on the installation. It's going to tell me that it completed, and I'm going to go ahead and click on finish. And so in the background here, I have code blocks loading up, and a few minutes an IDE screen will come up. Let's make sure the screen comes up. If the screen does come up, it means your code blocks was successfully installed, for which mine appears to have been successfully installed, which is good. You might see something different on the screen on the left-hand side. In fact, you'll probably see either file folders, or you'll see who knows an empty resource over here. It might not look exactly like this. I have taken away some of the tool bars on my code blocks. You can do this quite simply by clicking around and changing the settings. I've made this a little bit more of the minimalist approach, so that it's not so confusing. You can add tab bars to turn on and off quick buttons to run the menu items. I'm going to use for the purposes of this course, I'm going to use the menu items, because it's easier for most people to find on different operating systems. However, feel free to click around, get familiar with the environment, and also to change your view settings to add tool bars, if you'd like. There's lots of different tool bars you can add. I just find it clutter my screen up a little bit, so I pull the tool bars away. And also, if you get stuck with some screens as you are doing the install, I ask you if you want to set something as a default, go ahead and say yes. For example, for the GCC compiler, or for the association of .c and .c plus plus files with code blocks, it is your choice. Go ahead and click through and say okay on the prompts. Go ahead and do defaults for all settings, it'll make it easier in the long run. Hopefully your code blocks screen has come up correctly, and if it has, you're ready to continue with the next video, and I will see you soon. Thanks for watching.
